Introduction: Culture Blocks is a community partnership between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, and the Arts & Science Council. It was established to embrace and celebrate the cultural life and desires of residents, connect communities to arts and culture activities that speak to their interests, and to break down barriers to participation with cultural organizations. The James B. Duke Memorial Library at Johnson C. Smith University, in collaboration with the Levine Museum of the New South, received funding from Culture Blocks to implement the Beatties Ford Road Corridor Preservation and History Project.
The Beatties Ford Road Corridor Preservation and History Project seeks to engage residents from the Historic West End in a collaborative effort to record oral histories, encourage preservation of materials, and collect artifacts and narratives to display in a community traveling exhibit and programming schedule.
