About this collection

Background
The Charlotte Post newspaper chronicles the African-American community in Charlotte, NC and surrounding areas. The newspaper was founded in 1878 and is published by The Charlotte Post Publishing Company. The Charlotte Post Collection at Johnson C. Smith University Archives is a large collection of photos that primarily span the ‘80’s through the early 2000’s.

There are portrait photos of celebrities, pastors, politicians, civic leaders along with event photos from speeches, award ceremonies and protests.
